Today, I’m sharing my journey with the NVIDIA AI Infrastructure and Operations Exam – NCA-AIIO. This certification is the first I’ve taken for a while. AI is clearly a hot-topic these days and with with most of my career so far focused on IT Infrastructure, the title of this exam caught my attention.
So, let’s dive into what it’s all about.
Who Is This Exam For?
First, this exam targets IT professionals with an interest in AI. Specifically, it’s for those managing or looking to manage AI infrastructure. Moreover, it suits engineers who already have a background in IT infrastructure, although this is not necessary.
Naturally, anyone aiming to boost their career in AI operations should consider it. Ultimately it validates your skills in a niche field.
What’s Covered in the Exam?
Now, let’s talk about the content. Primarily, the exam focuses on NVIDIA hardware and software. For instance, it tests your knowledge of GPUs and software such as CUDA. You’ll also face questions on AI workload optimization.
Also, expect topics on cluster management. In fact, networking for AI systems is a big part. If you don’t know much about InfiniBand, RDMA & similar technologies, I highly recommend taking the course first.
Lastly, you’ll need to grasp containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes. It’s quite a broad scope!
Did I Feel About the Exam?
Surprisingly, the exam day was not too intense. Initially, I felt nervous but after completing the course I felt prepared. Moreover, the questions were on the practical side, not just theoretical. Real-world experience helped a lot.
How to Prepare for Success?
Start with the Basics
To begin, understand NVIDIA’s core technologies. Obviously, start with their official documentation. Next, focus on GPU architecture basics.
Watch NVIDIA’s free webinars. They offer great insights. Similarly, join forums for tips. As a result, you’ll learn from others’ experiences.
Hands-On Practice
Get hands-on with NVIDIA tools where possible or at least learn what the all do. I didn’t have access to the hardware mentioned in the course, but reading up about what everything does and why you would use it, really helps.
Study Resources and Guides
Leverage NVIDIA’s training portal – it’s excellent. Also, check out their certification roadmap and exam blueprint so you know what to expect.
An hour before the exam, I asked Grok to give me an overview of basic concepts and information on NVIDIA hardware and software solutions – This really helped in the final minutes before the exam.

Look into third-party resources. I did the free practice exam on WhizLabs a day before the exam.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, my NVIDIA AI Infrastructure and Operations Exam experience was rewarding. Despite challenges, I learned a lot.
I encourage anyone with a similar background or interest to try it. With proper prep, success is easily achievable. Also, use the links I shared as they’ll guide you well.
The course was only $50: https://academy.nvidia.com/en/course/ai-infrastructure-operations-fundamentals/?cm=64727
And the exam is $135 which can be taken remotely almost any time of the week. It is proctored so be sure to clear your desk before starting 🙂
