COVID-19: Free tools to help

With COVID-19 affecting our personal and professional lives, many businesses are helping out where they can.

Recently there have been a lot of organisations extending trials or offering their software for free in an effort to help us work from home and to keep businesses running.

Here are a few useful software solutions which I’ve seen reported in the last few days.

VMware

Extended free trials of Workspace ONE for 90 days and 100 devices through July 31, 2020

Extended free trials of Horizon 7 on-premises, Horizon 7 on VMware Cloud on AWS, and Horizon Cloud on Azure for 90 days and 100 named users through July 31, 2020.

VMware is introducing the VMware SD-WAN Work @Home free trial offering, which provides end user hardware and hosted services for up to 45-days for up to 50 employees using one of the following Work @Home bundles:

  • Wired Bundle with VMware SD-WAN Edge 510
  • Wireless Bundle with VMware SD-WAN Edge 510-LTE

Runecast

If you use VMware Horizon and need additional analytics while your Horizon environment is stretched to its limits with work from home on the increase, then take a look at Runecast’s Analyzer trial.

The trial is extended from 14 days and will expire on 15th September 2020, giving you almost 6 months of free use of the software.

Microsoft

Teams is an instant messaging and collaboration tool provided by Microsoft. A few years back, Microsoft released a free version of Teams to compete with others but its features were restricted.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Microsoft are opening up a few extra features to make collaboration away from the office easier.
